Digital Story Telling The below assignement explains the importance of visual literacy and how it can affect students and their understanding of a situation:
Tarayn Marissa Svalberg EDT 3010 Visual Literacy Assignment The above particular issue is attractive, however has many problems. The visual about has some issues that would inhibit a clear literate reading. This visual is meant to be somewhat Representative as well as Interpretative in trying to get the point across the amount of proteins American’s eat is much too high. The figure ground (Perception) is thrown off, because the pictures don’t really make sense an pop out in a negative way, like a distraction. The pictures make have been intended to fall under the Gestalt category and were intended to create a Contiguity to each portion of the table, but in reality, they do not. The proximity of the picture is also off. The pictures have decent spacing, but most appear to be on the right and cover and distract the table, lessening the information. The alignment of the pictures seems unbalanced and over does the experience of viewing the table as a whole. The overall proximity of the picture could be a bit more spaced out and organized. The Title of the table may do better in a different and bigger font. It just blends into the table and it unnoticeable at first. The color is irrelevant and looks nice, but with the pictures four colors may be too much. Maybe an alteration of just two of the darker colors to separate columns would be appropriate enough. The last column is orange and seems to blend in too much with the KFC chicken, the bun and the hotdog colors; the column gets lost under the colors. The shape appears to be relevant, although maybe a chart scaled down would be more visually stimulating and helpful in relaying the information. The size could be much bigger. Overall, the pictures is colorful and attractive, but in the end the pictures have little sense besides matching the subject, there are too many pictures and colors which take away from the subject matter, and the spacing is off and cluttered. These changes could help the visual eventually be a more visually literate, useful piece of information.
